Linville Falls from Plunge Basin

Most people only see the falls from the overlooks along the easy trail on the south side of Linville River; the trailhead sign describing the hike to Plunge Basin, on the north side, as very strenuous seems to deter all but a relative few. But the hike is not really that bad; it is only 1.5 miles RT and does entail a steep descent (and return climb), but it is well worth the effort. Plus, the trail lands you in Linville Gorge, where you can start exploring downstream. Blue Ridge Parkway, NC-- March 2010
