Left TH at 4am, summitted at 9 with a handful of others. Ran into dozens of people on the way down and thankful for the early start. Also thankful we ascended in the dark as the walk out was rather boring. Still though, this peak has many different aspects that I feel make it one of CO's favorite 14er.
Spent three nights in the boulder field and went for the summit on Sunday, just before a white-out storm Monday morning on the climb down. Great climb though!
Climbed the standard route with Dustin Kelley and Eric Holle. Lot of people on the mountain, but an interesting climb. Weather started to get bad at the end.
Descended to Bear Lake -- long hike!
Not sure of the date.
Epic day on Keiners, one of the best routes I have EVER done. Did not see anyone else on the entire mountain other than a couple camped below the Keyhole. Crazy, and we thought it would be crowded!
Two laps up in August, Keyhole and Cable route, under the perseid meteor shower during the mountain start.
Nice route, fun and easy.
Started the ascent at 1237pm and summited at 6pm. Returned to trailhead at 1040pm. The entire summit was ours alone.
Started at 1am and returned the same day after summiting. Beautiful day with great weather and lots of interesting people enroute
Climbed casual rt. Got caught in hail storm half way up pitch 5 luckily was able to retreat to a cave on top of pitch 4 waited out the lightning and finished to the d7 rap. Anchors was pretty epic but all in all it was a great climb.
This was a looong day with several friends back in the summer of 2005. Definitely a bonding and learning experience. Will be back again someday.
The Keyhole is a CO classic. Great trail. Start early to avoid the crowds. It's long, but worth it.
Went up the Iron Gates route on Meeker then over to Longs for my 14er finisher!
My second, and probably last, trip to the summit. Weather was perfect, and I was able to spend some time at the top, which I couldn't last time. Altogether, the trip took 2-1/2 hours longer than it did in 2002. A very long, gruelling day, but what a payoff!
Technical climb of the Keyhole Ridge to the summit of Longs. Down via standard route. Fun alpine ridge climb, beautiful weather, magnificent views from the ridge.
I climbed it once, in the summer of 1999. It was fun - I would like to return some day.
Longs Peak via the Keyhole. Cruised up to the Keyhole in about 2.5, a little slower going after that avoiding a little snow and since it was my first 14er of the year. Mostly easy Class 3 above the Keyhole, will be easier once it dries out more. Car to car in a little over 8 hours, including an hour on top. Mellow, pretty boring hike below the Keyhole.
hiked up to the boulder field and camped the night and tagged the summit the next morning.
aug 2010, soloed the cables up and down on a friday. it was pretty dry, and not too exposed. saw one other party on the summit
I was shooting for a 4am start, but finally got my act together and was on the trail by 5. The trail was quiet on my ascent: ran into a total of 6 hikers/climbers. After the keyhole, had everything to myself. Leading up to the Trough was real slick, and the Trough itself was frozen sunbaked snow at 8am. the climb wasn't bad, but the narrows were iced over and sketchy. By the time I made it to the homestretch, things had softened up. Aside from an ice crux at the bottom, it was straight forward. 5 hours up, 3.5 down. REMEMBER to bring ice Axe and crampons!
