My first summit, my first love. A HUGE learning experience. A trip report to come. With Mike McMullen
via Keyhole Route
My first and still favorite 14er. Longs has it all. Six ascents by four different routes so far.
This was the first 14er I climbed in 1998 when I was in scouts! my latest climb was in 2009. I can't recommend it highly enough
Climbed the Loft route in wet, windy, foggy conditions. Successfully summitted but I eventually got chased off by a thunderstorm.
Labor Day weekend, but only 3 people apart from me on the Loft route!
I really enjoyed this climb. Not crowded at all. Saw some elk.
My fifth Colorado 14'er. Climbed via the Keyhole Route. A true "Rocky Mountain High" experience. Five hours later (after summiting) back at the rented cabin in Estes Park, I grabbed a couple of chilled Busch beers and "headed for the mountains" once again.
First Colorado 14er! Started at 2AM with no sleep, watched sunrise from Keyhole, on summit by 730, back at car in afternoon. Incredible views and fun diversity in scrambling.
Great hike to the summit of a great peak.
Via Stettner's Ledges (damn those dudes were bad ass)then Upper Keiners.
Dad led cable route. Jimmy rescued un-roped climbers. Second summit.
8.5 hours on keyhole route. last 30 minutes in hail and heavy rain. Good thing we left at 3:30 am
11.5 hours round trip, started at 4am. Perfect weather!
Very cold and windy day, but still a highly enjoyable climb up this magnificent mountain. I only wish the technical bit was longer.
06/02/13- via the Notch with a mix climb finish up the Staircase. Perfect conditions the whole way
First taste of 14ers. Still tons of snow in late May.
up loft down KH. 2nd ascent.
Via the casual route. fun.
