Longspurred violet

Longspurred violet

Some examples of the Longspurred violet, also known as the Beaked violet (Viola rostrata). Supposedly these aren't particularly common in the Smokies. We found a reasonable number of them on the Ramsay Cascades trail in mid-March; the usual recommendations are the Porters Creek or Chestnut top trails. March 2011.
