Re: question

Good question! I was above the step between Gooseneck Ridge and the summit ridge, where the summit ridge runs pretty much in a north-south direction, so I was looking to the west. The lake appeared to be almost directly below me. Looking at my map, it appears that Lake 11,598 is the only one that fits, but it seems like there should be more of Mammoth Glacier in the picture and Lake 11,598 seems a little too far south and too far away from the ridge. I am baffled. Surely someone else has seen this lake on their way to the summit of Gannet. Anyone?

Re: question

well, i thought the same thing - that the mammoth glacier should be visible if this is lake 11,598, and then there is the canyon that is down stream, it doesnt seem quite right. i think now that it might be lake 11,550?? recentered map -jf

Re: question

Nice picture! The lake sits NW of Gannett and SW of Mount Koven at about 11,600 ft. It used to be covered by the Minor Glacier so maybe Minor Lake would be a good name for it.
