Easy ride..
Well, not the usual hiking. This time with car, almost to the top. But anyway, had a nice day with a good friend.

Squeeze in another
Road walking from Matrahaza. Got to Gyongyos at night and then made it to Kekes by around 11pm. I camped out then took train and bus back to Budapest for my flight home the next day.
This concluded my high pointing trip of Eastern Europe.

Too bad about the tower on the summit
From the camping at Sasto.
There was a big stone and plaque marking the summit as the high point of Hungary - but it wasn't, really. Though hardly higher, the actual high point is in a fenced off garden area around the TV tower. The tower itself is open to the public (I went up), but the garden isn't accessible to the public and so I didn't go there.

Kekes
Short visit to Kekes and some sightseeing in beautiful Budapest! still some snow up there on spring's first day but not enough for skiing!
Climbed up to the top, but was socked in with clouds and fog. Still an amazing experience hiking through the rich green forests with fog all around! My first country high point! Vetem egy kis edeseget a tetejen! Utana irany volt a haza!

No bottled oxygen needed for this climb
Hiking this hill via the ski slope gives you a good idea why Hungary has yet to produce any Olympic downhill medalists.

Kekes from Markaz
Summited Kekes from Markaz. Really nice hike. Stayed overnight at Diszno-ko. Beautiful forest and views of the surrounding low-land on this hike. This was the first of our "European High Points" hikes. It's worth doing if you hike it instead of driving and walking up from the parking lot! Hardly saw another person for two days (other than at Kekes)!

A walk in fog
Walked up this in fog. A nice forest, but not much of a hike.
Not much of a hike (5 minutes from the parking lot), but every country highpoint is beautiful in its own way. Much of the beauty of reaching this highpoint is in taking the mountain roads to get to it.
Hiked up the ski run from Matrahaza to the summit marker of Kekes as only a few patches of snow left. Beautiful weather and enjoyable, if short, hike. Travelled from Budapest to bag Hungary's highpoint.
