because 50 feet don't matter  Sucess!

It becomes so important to be on the tallest that we forget around every corner lies a different view and different challenge. North mahogany is no different. The views are timeless and one could only dream of enjoying such a view every day of their life. Don't let 50 feet determine that it isn't worth it, when people pay millions for such a view.

North Mahagony  Sucess!

Via Grove Creek TH. Like Yadahzoemtn I also did this one the long way. I followed Grove Creek Canyon all the way until it met up with the Timpooneke Road. From there I followed it for quite a while until I could access the trail that led to the saddle between N Mahogany and Point 8905. I first went up 8905 and then up to North Mahogany (8926). Continued along the mass to Mahogany and further south along the ridge until I dropped back down to the Grove Creek trail, by the memorial bench. I got caught in a nasty steep, loose section with some of the thickest scrub oak, that I had to work through to meet up with the trail. I am sure I got off track coming down the SE Ridge, but I wouldn't recommend this route. Even though this saved me 4+ miles, I much preferred the long way.

There's a really sad looking cairn up there.  Sucess!

Gorgeous views of the southern Alpine ridge up here! And quite a majestic angle for admiring Timp. Also, summit Oreos.

Drums!  Sucess!

Apparently, there was some flavor of rendezvous happening because three were so many people up the Timpanooke road. A lone man stood on a precipice and played a drum. We could hear it even from the top of Mahogany North. The easy/short way is really easy/short. Driving the rough road is the most difficult part of the easy route. The views from the peak are definitely worth the drive...er hike, yeah.

Short and steep  Sucess!

Via the northwest ridge that starts at the golf course. First hit Point 8905, then North Mahogany Mt (Point 8926), and then Mahogany. The trail was easy to follow until about 8000' and then I lost it in the snow. It was miserably windy but other than that the weather was beautiful and it was a great end to 2011. Doing all 3 peaks was about 7 miles RT and a total elevation gain of about 4650'.

North Mahogany  Sucess!

Started from Timpooneke Road trailhead. A trail goes up to the ridge overlooking the valley. I continued on toward Mahogany Mountain after this peak.
