Dragon's Back from Twin Lakes
Trail was super snowy and crusty until I got to tree line. It was kind of a fool's errand trying to stay on the trail. It was a lot more fun bombing down the mountain on the ski slopes.

Dragon's Back
Uneventful hike up and down Dragon's Back. Very windy, but sunny and hot. I was surprised to see how beautiful the scenery was, providing that the mountain has nothing exciting about it. It crossed my mind to take the lift down, but I decided I had to get even with the trail, which is a stiff uphill the entire time. It took me going down less than half the time it took going up.
Mammoth Lakes is a beautiful place. The hike is ok. I wish it were remote without ski stuff

Took the lift up
Hate to admit it, but views of the San Joaquin canyon and Mammoth Lakes basin were exceptional. Much better than on a couple "real" hikes I took in the preceding days. Too bad there was substantial smoke blowing in from the Ferguson Fire...

Derping around
Only in the area for a day so took the gondola up and poked around on the summit with some crystal views, then headed off for some scrambling on Deadman Creek dome and took a meander up Convict Canyon before the wind made walking near impossible. Good times!

bush whacking
The trails were closed, so we headed up from the gondola first following ski runs, then bushwhacked up higher on. Great views .
After hiking Bodie and Potato earlier in the day, arrived in Mammoth around 5 PM. Since it was too early to head to the motel for the night I hiked Mammoth, going up the Dragon's Back Trail. Very cold and windy on top, saw no other hikers on the entire trail, descended by headlamp.

Feels like Cheating
Ok, I probably shouldn't sign this log since I rode the tram up to the top, but I did have to climb another 15 feet to the top in snow and ice and wind to get to the true summit!

Dragon's Back Trail
Got to the top of this mountain the only reasonable way - on foot. Gondolas are for babies.

With the Family
Took the gondola up with the family (2 and 1 yr. old kids). They made it part way up White Mtn. the day before.

Hiking trail up and down
Certainly a strange mountain experience. Ski lifts crossing the mountain, mountain bikers zipping all over... But the views of the Minnaretts and other peaks are just amazing. Neat, quick jaunt. Summit is nice for lunch.
