Route Climbed: Medicine Bow Peak Trail Date Climbed: August 2001  Sucess!

Great hike! There was still some snow on the top of the peak but it was packed down. Beautiful wildflowers along the route and great views of all of the Snowy Range from the top! We did the long loop from Lewis Lake, up to the peak, then back over to Lake Marie, then back up to Lewis.

Route Climbed: Medicine Bow Peak Trail/Loop Date Climbed: July 27, 2002  Sucess!

Climbed with Vagabond Manifesto and another friend. This was the first real mountain I had climbed. The views from the top were spectacular, though a little hazy in some directions. You can see for many miles. As V.M. said, it was extremely windy. Also, would like to point out that there tend to be thunderstorms every afternoon. We were rained on during the last half of our hike. I have experienced the same conditions on the southern end of the Medicine Bow Range in Colorado, so leave early in the morning. This is a good starter climb which will leave you wanting more.

Route Climbed: Medicine Bow Peak Trail/Lakes Trail loop Date Climbed: July 27, 2002  Sucess!

This is one of the best hikes around. Incredible views to the west on the way up from Lewis Lake. Following the ridge west from the summit, we were buffeted by sustained 60 mph winds. The descent to Lake Marie from the spine of the range is awesome.

Route Climbed: Lake Marie, Schoolhouse Rock, Old Main Couloir Date Climbed: 1995, 1996  Sucess!

Only summitted twice via Lake Marie trail with our dogs. Other trips were on the rock (schoolhouse rock) and snow (Old Main-- turned back due to poor conditions) and down without venturing up to the summit. Schoolhouse Rock had a lot of loose rock, mostly large dangerous blocks.

Route Climbed: Lake Marie Trail Head Date Climbed: September 17,2005  Sucess!

I was part of a group from the University climbing Medicine Bow at night during a full moon. It was incredible. The lights from any nearby city/town were clearly visible and wind was at a minimum. Temp was in the 20's. Great views of everything with moonlight! We made a loop and went back by descending on the Sugarloaf side and back to Lake Marie.

Route Climbed: Lake Marie Date Climbed: October 2, 2004  Sucess!

It was pretty intense since we pressed on through a bad snow storm that was almost a white out at times. there was about 2 feet of snow so we camped at Vedauwoo, we wanted to boulder anyways, and had a nice warm night.

Route Climbed: From West Lake Marie Date Climbed: 8/6/05  Sucess!

Great hike on a great day. Only one small snow field to contend with. Going up the ridge, and coming back via the lakes trail only took aobut 5 hours at a leisurely pace

Route Climbed: Lake Marie Date Climbed: June 11, 2005  Sucess!

Great climb, great weather. We left at about 6:00 AM and made it to the summit before 8:30. The snow was deep, but fairly hard-packed. This is a great season for south face direct climbs!

Route Climbed: Old Main Couloir variation Date Climbed: June 10, 2005  Sucess!

Medicine Bow was a nice climb. Too bad the weather wasn't the best. I left the East Lake Marie TH at 5:15am, ascended a small but steep offshoot of the Old Main Couloir, and hit the summit at 7:45am. I had a fun glissade down the true Old Main Couloir and was back at the TH by 9am.

It was a great hike, especially since almost all of it was above timberline on the alpine tundra. The grassy highlands reminded my dad and I of the Scottish highlands. It was beautiful. At the summit, we could see Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as other jagged Colorado peaks to the south, and Laramie Peak to the north. It was a worthwhile climb.

Attempted this in the snow with my wife. Made it to 11,500 feet and turned back. Hiking was to slow and got sick of falling waist deep in the snow. Will attempt it again next year when the snow melts.

Route Climbed: ridge traverse(TH?) Date Climbed: August 6th, 2004  Sucess!

A wonderful morning hike, with spectacular views in all directions, all the way to Rocky Mt NP. A quiet and relatively unknown wildernes area, a gem.

Short climb, but was not ready for the altitude. Headache, dizzy and distorted vision.

Route Climbed: Lake Marie Trailhead Date Climbed: June 27, 2004  Sucess!

On June 27, 2004, Matt, a fellow SP member (Mr P)and I "tackled" Medicine Bow Peak. The views from the top were great and it was the first time in my life that I was got in a crazy hail storm descending as we got closer to the parking lot. My route description of this route is very informative and full of photos if you are interested in venturing into WY's Snowy Range!

Route Climbed: East slopes Date Climbed: October 2003  Sucess!

This is a pretty convenient peak to get to from Laramie, so it was nice to stay close to home for this one. It's one of the easier climbs around with great views down into Colorado and up into Wyoming. Lake Marie is well worth the visit.

Route Climbed: Standard trail? Date Climbed: July 2, 2000  Sucess!

Easy half-day climb (though one short, treacherous snowfield crossing). Great scenery, very similar to Uinta mountains of Utah. Did this as a tune up to Mt. Massive a few days later.

Route Climbed: Loop Date Climbed: July 2001  Sucess!

Good moderate hike. Many beautiful flowers on the way up with some enormous rock fields. Be sure to bring rain gear if hiking in early afternoon in the summer. Storms seem to come like clockwork.

Route Climbed: Main Trail Date Climbed: September 4, 2000  Sucess!

TJ Burr and Mia Petrey climbed the mountain together completing the 7.4 mile loop. We had a late start that offered a spectacular sunset from the summit ridge. Fortunately the weather was good allowing us to descend the final 2 miles in the dark. We hadn't planned on making a descent in the dark, and it isn't recommended. The granite walls on the east side drop straight off, and the trail is meandering and rocky on the way down to Lake Marie. TJ has jogged the loop many times. Jogging the route is great fun and hard work, but you have to watch every step.
