We didn't have much time and fully intend on returning, maybe over Thanksgiving. We hiked to the Calico Tank before going to the airport to catch a plane!. We want to do Turtlehead and Rainbow Mountain. I would most like to do the Branch Whitney climb to the summit of Mescalito. I don't use ropes anymore (tired of hauling the stuff around), but I enjoy seeing what you and other climbers are doing on SP. Have you thought about submitting material for scramblers to the Mescalito page or do you prefer to keep it a climbing page?
I'd love to see more routes of all levels of difficulty added to (any) mountain pages. Please DO add route information to any of my peaks if you have it. My wife and I are backpackers/scramblers who have only recently discovered the joys of technical climbing. Our main passion is just being outdoors in beautiful natural settings. The reason I haven't added more varied routes to the Red Rocks pages I've put up is simply because we haven't done them - that in turn is because we live in Portland, OR and so far have only had two (brief) opportunities to visit Red Rocks. We really fell in love with that area though and are making plans to go there again Thanksgiving and/or Christmas/New Years time frame. Hopefully the next time you go there you'll have more time to spend!
Best regards,
Radek
PS I've also added in a Calico Hills page (not on the side bar of Red Rocks Peaks) you might enjoy since you've hiked that (beautiful!) area of the park.
I've got a friend from NYC who keeps trying to get me to head to Red Rocks with him... not really a fan of Las Vegas... but the rocks around it look pretty sweet. Great page.
Yeah, I thought we would not enjoy ourselves at Red Rocks also but it was GREAT! It has a "different" kind of feel to it. The climbing is spectacular esp. for easy to moderate long, multi-pitch stuff. If you stay at the campground (a great option as long as it's not summer time.......seems safe and is comfortable) you don't really see the big city next door until you get a few pitches up on a route. Even then on most formations the city looks far away. The nice thing is that you also get the conveniences of "civilization" nearby - 24 hr. eating places in a wide range of prices (can really find some cheap feed). We've done the trip there twice and can't wait to go back. Having climbed at Smith and City of Rocks, I'd say that RR is our favorite cragging area (by far).
Thank you very much for the nice vote. I've enjoyed your recent photo submissions to SP (and congratulations on making the front page "photo of the week").
Your pages are perfect! I am very impressed by your summit logs - and, of course, your pictures. Thanks for the congratulations. It's a shame, but since I started to post my photos, I never visited the homepage.
Nice page...Just for your info, Hiking Southern Nevada by Branch Whitney describes a 3rd class route to the summit that I used. Route finding was challenging, but there are occasional cairns. He also lists the elevation as 5,440.

Untitled CommentThank you for the vote Aaron. So which routes did you have a chance to try at Red Rocks?

Lat/Long?!?The coordinates posted put the climb somewhere in Arizona. Does anyone have better numbers?
