Mono Lake, CA-- December 23, 1997. Minutes earlier, I had knelt in the snow, recited a Shakespearean sonnet, and asked my girlfriend to marry me. After the ring passed muster, she said yes, and we got married the next July. We revisited the site and repeated the scene in 2003-- I still knew the sonnet, no rehearsal needed.

Thank you! Cool place for a proposal, I thought-- had to carry the ring for three days in Death Valley first, which I didn't think was such a good choice for a proposal spot!
