Climbed this one on my way to Mount Field and Tom. It ended up being my favourite peak of the day! The clouds lifted just enough to reveal Crawford Notch, and Mount Webster across the notch.

Sunny and Cold
I didn't have much time for a hike, so I chose to do Mt. Avalon. The views of the notch were incredible. It was really cold, but the sun was out so it wasn't as freezing as I expected it to be.

4th mountain of the day
Did this one last after Tom, Field, and Willey. Nice overlook even at night. Decended in the dark and only fell on my ass once thanks to foot chains. When I fell I did leave one behind though. Oops!
Hiked a Willey, Tom, Field, Avalon overnight backpack. Watched the sun set and rise. Perfect weekend.

4 in 1 Day
This was the crowning jewel on a great day. Had done, Tom, then Field, then Willey, back to Field and then took the Avalon Trail down from Field. Had no idea what to expect on this one but what a nice surprise. Fun little scramble at the summit and the views were extraordinary. Sat in the sun and enjoyed it before heading back down. On the drive back to our camp in North Woodstock, we had a red fox run in front of us on the road where you turn from 302 left on to 93. Was cool to see.

This mountain was great fun to climb, actually hit it twice. Once on the 9th, and again on the 13th after Tom and Field.

Beautiful Day
We arrived at the trailhead at the Crawford Depot a little before 9 am, and made it to the summit by 11:30. Beautiful views of the notch and of Mt. Washington. As we descended the clouds rolled in, and it started to rain as we drove away.

Mount Avalon
Climbed with Tom, Field and Willey via the Willey Range Trail from Crawford Notch. An enjoyable diversion during the trek back to Crawford Notch. Amazing views of the the notch and the Presidentials even during this hazy summer day.

great views
I went to Mt. Tom and Mt. Field last year in the fall where I ran into a hiker who told me Mt. Avalon has one of the finest views. It was one of his favorites. I decided to take his advice while I went to Mt. Willey, and see Mt. Avalon, and I'm glad I did. It was really sunny and I was facing the sun early in the morning, but I really did like the view. This is an easy mountain to do in Crawford Notch, and should be seen by all.

Nice easy summit with the best view per mile of hike ratio of any in the area. Some snow, but generally good, warm weather. Continued up Field and Willey before looping back to Crawford Notch.
