Mt Bailey Trail, Fun Day Hike  Sucess!

I climbed Bailey with my friends from the Forest Service while I was working at the Umpqua National Forest. This is a fun day hike that maintains a moderate grade the whole way up. If you go off trail a bit you can check out the ski cabin. Still a bit of snow at the top, even in late July. Great views of Thielsen and Diamond Lake.

3rd time  Sucess!

This was my third time up Bailey, this time with my GF Brook, her little guy Ryan, and my daughter Zoe, who was seven at the time. What I most remember about this climb was that it was the first real mountain experience for my family. I also thought it was pretty neat that Zoe walked ten miles and gained 3000' of elevation all on her own.

1st Time  Sucess!

This was a one of my first climbs, went with my friend Brandon, and his two dogs, one a really fat rottweiler that almost died from the exertion. Other than that, I recall it was a warm, nice day and a fun climb with a good friend.

Mount Bailey  Sucess!

A storm went over the Cascades on Sunday night and a new layer of snow had fallen in the mountains. The weather in the morning looked good so we decided to hike up Mount Bailey. I really liked the crater, rock window, and summit ridge.

Re: Mount Bailey

I was on Diamond Peak that same day. I thought we saw someone on Bailey. HA

Re: Mount Bailey

I only saw one other group in the morning so it was probably me that you saw on Bailey.

Mt Bailey  Sucess!

In 2006, had difficulty finding longer trail head, tried higher trail head. Too difficult even in a high clearance vehicle. Finally found in 2007. Definitely a major peak. 10 miles, 3000 ft elevation gain, 8'363. Similar to South Sis, but shorter. The picture frame near summit of Diamond Lake and Theilsen breathtaking.

Mt. Bailey trail  Sucess!

Solo. This is a fun hike, great views all around. The section from the upper trailhead to the summit ridge is a great workout. And the summit ridge itself is really cool. Up in 2:45 with lots of stops on the way for pics. Half hour on the summit, down in 1:55 with more picture taking. Recommended highly.

Mt. Bailey Trail  Sucess!

I've climbed this one a couple of times. The first time was in 1999. Great hike and spectacular views of Diamond Lake and Mt. Thielsen.

Hiked from the upper trail head. A very short but still difficult hike. took 13 hours round trip including driving there and getting lost a couple of times. still a mostly snow free summit even in mid October

Route Climbed: Mount Bailey Trail Date Climbed: July 20, 2005  Sucess!

I climbed this trail with my wife and my friend Brett from work. This was an easy climb with an excellent view of Diamond Lake and the alluring Mount Thielsen. Good views of Mount McLoughlin, Three Sisters and more. Nice and wide summit. Would be a great spot to camp out and spend the night. Definately something I wish to do again, only in the Winter. The views with snow would probably be spectacular. Only downfall on our climb was that we were assaulted by hundreds of mosquitos at a time, and that is no exagerration. We were unfortunate enough to have forgotten our mosquito repellant, but thankfully a very pleasant and caring person relinquished one of theirs to us for the trip back down. Thank God.

Route Climbed: mt bailey trail Date Climbed: the twelvth of june 2004  Sucess!

The twelvth of june is my birthday and it was a treat to climb bailey this day. We started from the lower trailhead due to snow. the blue blazes on the trees made the route easy to follow. their was a fresh coat of snow on the summit . the scramble along the ridge was cool. the rock window an added suprise and great veiws all the way to shasta in the south.( shasta is my next summit following bailey.) We shared the summit with mountain climbing snowmobiles making jumps off a cornice. first time I shared a summit with moter vehicles. (hopefully the last). Still a great birthday present.

This mountain was interesting because it is the 23rd most topographically prominent peak in Oregon, with 2968+ feet of prominence. I did it on the same day as Mt. Scott, and it was my fifth of five of Oregon's "50 Finest" for the weekend.

Route Climbed: upper road Date Climbed: June 26, 2004  Sucess!

Snow drifts on upper road blocked progress about a mile from trail, but I was still a mile closer than the lower trailhead. Mosquitos the worst I've seen in 2 years. Lots of snow on trail below timberline up high. Trail well marked with blue diamond blazes. Almost entire route above timberline is snow. Perfect consistency for kicking steps. 3 hours to summit. One other climber on route today.
