Hidden gem  Sucess!

Hiked the loop. Seventy minutes up the short way and eighty minutes down via the boulder route past Headwaters camp site. Took a dip in the lake afterwards and it was fantastic. There were many trails to choose from besides just the Mount Carleton trails but some had been closed due to beaver dam wash outs.

Great Hike!  Sucess!

MountainHikerette & I climbed Mount Carleton, the high point of New Brunswick. It is within Mount Carleton Provincial Park. We were disappointed to learn the park was closed! When we pulled up to the closed gate we saw a maintenance worker. We expected he would tell us sorry, go away. But instead Larry told us he would give us a lift to the trailhead. That saved us over 4 miles one way to the closest trailhead. Not only that, he gave us and another party who arrived around the same time, radios, so we could call in case something happened! He drove us to the farthest trailhead which allowed us to go up the standard route. We traversed the mountain and came down the Bald Mountain Brook trail to a closer trailhead to shorten our return hike. There were beautiful waterfalls on this descent. When we got back to that trailhead I called him on the radio to let him know we were off the mountain and hiking out the road. We had hiked about a mile when Larry came along and gave us a lift back to the closed gate!

This park wasn't closed for the same reason as our National Parks. It was a management decision based on the season. (Larry didn't share management's view on that!) In minutes we went from thinking we might have to poach the peak if we wanted it to being helped immensely by an employee who loves his park.

Expansive views  Sucess!

I loved the views of the lakes and vast forest lands surrounding this peak.

Mt Carleton TH  Sucess!

This was a part of a longer trip back east to climb Mt Katahdin with my 16 year old son. We headed into New Brunswick after that and found it to be unspoiled with very few people when you got out of the few sizable cities. We hiked up the trail in rain and there were no views. Still it was a wonderful park to visit.

Mount Carleton  Sucess!

Took the kids (age 6 &7) and they had no trouble getting up and down. Great views and a nice park. Plan to go back and do other trails when we have more time.
