Mt. Elbert Trail
My wife and I climbed with our dog to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. It was an easy hike that was perfect for the hound. The day was absolutely gorgeous with warm temps and little wind at the summit. We stayed on top for quite a while to take in the views and enjoy the morning.

HP #5 Solo Climb (2nd of 4 highpoints in 3 days)
This was by far my favorite of the 4 highpoints I did on my long trip. The others were New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The scenery was absolutely amazing with near perfect weather to boot.

Enjoyable Hike
This was an enjoyable, easy walk-up with nice views of the Sawatch and Elk ranges from the summit. My only complaint would be the throngs of people streaming up and down the two main routes. Try this one on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

Arrived and spent the night camped at the Twin Lakes campground near the trail head. Thunderstorms and rain much of the afternoon and evening.
Due to early morning showers, I did not begin my ascent until 10:30 AM. Climbed to 13,500 elevation as the clouds began to rebuild.
Since this was my first experience with a Colorado 14-Teener, I chose to retreat rather than risk being exposed to the danger of a summer afternoon thunder and lightening storm. It was my first and thus far only attempt at summitting Mt. Elbert.
I hope to return for another attempt and this grand old chunk of rock.

Peaceful climb
Nice and peaceful after the day before... Had a beer at the summit, and took a few hits of our bong 200 feet below, away from the kiddies at the top. 9 hours RT from Twin Lakes, including some lingering at the summit.

My 21st 14er, and the first with 3 generations of climbers: me and my wife, our daughter, and our granddaughter, who bagged her first. Clouds threatened, but didn't really unleash anything. (I want to do it again as a run, and see how long it takes.)

Winter ascent of Elbert
South Mt. Elbert trail (East ridge). Great weather, just a little wind. The snow softened up on the descent and we were sinking pretty deep even with snowshoes. Only saw one other person.

Elbert in July
This was my first 14er. I'm not sure about the year, it might have been 1984 or 1985. Even though I was there in July, it was cold in the morning and some snow fell near the summit.

This was my third winter summit of Elbert and sixth time summiting overall. Couldn't ask for better weather!
