Route Climbed: From near Halfmoon Creek Date Climbed: Sunday July 17,2005
Started up at 5:35AM reached the summit at 8:23 after a brief rain & sleet shower about 20 mins from the top. 4 people on top who had all climbed up from Twin Lakes. Stayed on the summit 'til 8:50, back down to the trailhead at 10:56 with lots of people heading up. My 14th 14'er and another beautiful Colorado morning, sweet!!
Route Climbed: South Mt. Elbert Trail Date Climbed: July 7, 2004
First 14er for me - I'm hooked! Now I just need to get myself back out to Colorado permanently so I can tackle a some more. Beautiful day for a hike only about 2-3 other people on the summit.
Route Climbed: Black Cloud Trail Date Climbed: July 11, 2005
First 14er, after being thwarted on Massive the previous week. The Black Cloud route was definitely a strenous way to summit and descend Elbert. Lots of loose rock on the switchbacks.
Route Climbed: North Trailhead up the North Mt. Elbert Trial Date Climbed: July 10, 2005
The stories are true. It's a walk to the top, but it's not easy! The trails are straight up the mountain with no switchbacks. You're thighs will be having a conversation with you the entire trip up. Take the South Mt. Elbert trail if you want something a little easier. It's a longer walk, but far more gradual! I had a nice stay in the glacial bowl beneath the peak one nice and finished the next. Much nicer than pounding it out as a day hike. The Afternoon storms did come is as all the books said. Around 3pm-5pm I had to small rain showers come through. Just sat it out in my tent. Luckily no lighting. Enjoy it. My first CO 14're
Route Climbed: from N. Mt. Elbert TH, northeast ridge Date Climbed: July 11, 2005
Pretty easy trail - but the false summits and steepness towards the top play with you a bit. 3 hrs, 25 mins to summit - definitely not moving too fast. My first crowded summit experience. Strange. Cool mountain though. Trip report to come
Route Climbed: South Mount Elbert Date Climbed: August 7, 2005
This one felt great! I didn't experience the standard altitude uck- yeah!:-) Summited in 2.5 hours, spent 1.5 hours enjoying the day on the summit (& drinking a lot of water), & was back down to the car in 1.5 hours- awesome! And treeline.... oh how I love treeline... a word of advice: when the bladder is full on a tall/open mountain such as Elber (with lots of people on it), RUNNING to treeline is the way to go!:-)
Route Climbed: South Mt. Elbert Date Climbed: July 25, 2001
My first 14er at age 60. Wasn't fully acclimated to altitude so it was a slow, hard ascent for someone who lives at an elevation of 446 ft. But, I made it! Beautiful views from a crowded top.
