Great hike. Started at the evans/epaulet saddle, hiked bierstadt's east ridge (very nice class 3 with great exposure), sawtooth to evans and back to the car.
Summited Evans, Spalding and Gray Wolf from Guanella Pass.
Even saw a bunch of mountain goats with young but forgot my camera :p
Training for Peru, knowck it down and move ontothe next.
No, I didn't drive up! But, we (my son and I) hiked the scree field from Summit Lake (Northeast Face I). Great view during the drive, hike and summit, despite threatening weather (it started raining at end of descent). Then we were headed back home to Oklahoma!
Fun hike, but fog blocked the views.
A fair amount of scrambling to reach the top.
Sawtooth Ridge is a great traverse
Started at 13,300 on the Evans road, up Bierstadt's east ridge, over the Sawtooth, Spaulding, and Evans. This is a fantastic route!
Fun, quick loop from Summit Lake.
My daughter took an hour nap at the summit. Stayed at summit two hours. Lots and lots of loud people at the top who drove up. In fact the low point at the high point was listening to someone's car alarm going off. Not too serene... Fourth 14er for me, 2nd for her and her favorite stuffed animal, Polo bear.
I met a bunch of goats and summited in a t-shirt with wintery views all around. What more could I ask for, eh?
Took me three attempts to finally get up Evans. Climbed from Guanella Pass - west ridge via Bierstadt/Sawtooth. Got onto the ridge and started dealing with strong, frigid winds. Not fun but a summit nonetheless. Descended in snow showers at 10AM.
A fun scramble, both up and down. Big billy goats laying about on the rock ledges.
Finally decided to try a summer ascent, 4th times a charm. Did the Sawtooth ridge, good fun
From Summit Lake to Evans to Spalding and back to the lake. Great hike, most of it well above 13000 feet. Nice day too, and it wasn't too crowded.
The sawtooth is an amazing traverse, but the elevation kicked my butt during the last mile or so to Evans. We ended up walking down the road and getting a ride to Idaho springs from a friendly couple who had hiked the cirque that day (thanks!). Pictures from the traverse are at http://www.flitterbick.net/photo/tripsandevents/sawtooth/ .
There was a circus at the top, and I think that we were the only climbers...
Great day for a bike ride. Started in Idaho Springs at 8:30am. Hit the summit at 12:30. Went from sunshine to snow in 15 minutes. Took 1 hr. to get down. Great day!
The sawtooth rocks.
