Mount Grinnell SE summit view

Grinnell Lake sits 1,500 feet beneath Upper Grinnell Lake and Grinnell Glacier; the constant influx of glacial flour delivered via spectacular Grinnell Falls gives the lake its famous turqouise color. Mount Gould, with tiny Gem Glacier just to the right, perch high above Grinnell Glacier Basin. The Salamander Glacier is visible in the extreme right of the photograph. Behind Grinnell Lake is massive Allen Mountain (left), followed by the steep shaded north faces of Cracker Peak and Mount Siyeh. Behind Siyeh and to the right is the pointed summit of Matahpi Peak, with the bulk of Going-to-the-Sun Mountain just to its right. The broad north face of Piegan Mountain is visble in the center of the photograph. The large peak behind Mount Gould to the right belongs to Mount Jackson, and the dark, rounded peak in front of it is Reynolds Mountain. The snow-capped double summits of aptly named Gunsight Mountain are in the far right distance. August 22, 2009
