Franconia Ridge  Sucess!

Fun loop starting from Falling Waters and then the Haystack to Lincoln to Lafayette Ridge and down the Greenleaf trail. Excessive winds at the summit on top of low temperatures. All around a great climb though

windy...  Sucess!

Hiked the classic Haystack-Lincoln-Lafayette loop with my father. Strong winds on the ridge but nice autumn views.

Quick trip over the ridge  Sucess!

The weather started out muggy and warm on the Falling Waters Trail. Water level high from all the rain the two days before and I forgot my gators. My left foot took a dunk in the first river crossing. I was able to take some nice photos from Little Haystack then the clouds rolled in, wind picked up and some hail was thrown in too. I scooted along pretty quickly and didn't spend much time on Lincoln or Lafayette summits. The Greenleaf Hut was great. Ate my lunch and warmed up before heading down Old Bridal Path. I would have loved to have been there on a nice day.

Training hike for son's West Coast trail trip  Sucess!

This hike was organized by one of my friends as a day trip from Boston. I decided to join along with my son, with his backpack full of all his gear in preparation for a week-long hiking trip he was going to take in August of same year with his dad. The weather was good, though at the top it was windy and cloudy. I ended up carrying the pack half the way - fun! We had a chance to test his new stove and taste a couple of the dry-freeze meals - we loved both that we tested! Awesome views from the ridge, and some really nice photos!

Clear skies

Beautifil views from the summit and then the ridge. Mount Washington on the horizon. Must be one of the better views in the North-Eastern US.

Blue skies, cold and windy... a.k.a Perfect!  Sucess!

Blue skies, windy, and cold. Perfect for the last official full day of winter.
This was the last mountain summit reached after a counter-clockwise hike of the ridge loop.
Had to use wind goggles and crampons for the ridge itself. A bit icy in some spots.

yet another Franconia loop  Sucess!

Managed to finish Franconia Ridge before the arrival of a strong Arctic front. Temperature went down to about -10F during this time, with moderate (30 mph) winds, but it did not feel extraordinarily severe - more like your typical above-treeline winter day in Whites. Did not even wear goggles on the ridge, and no traction required. Total time about 6.5 hours which is quite average. Descending Falling Waters Trail was glorious - the lower section near the river was a true winter wonderland. All in all a great winter outing - and very timely as temps dropped to 30 below on the summits just a few hours later.

In rain, 1974

Backpacked over a bunch of peaks on AT. Liberty was clear, but we were in blowing rain until we hit the hut by Guyot.

some of the best views in the region  Sucess!

Climbed it last in '07 from the Falling Waters Trail in conjunction with Lincoln, one of several times that I've done it. The views from the top have always been amazing, but it was crowded during Labor Day Weekend.

Late Winter  Sucess!

Did this hike in late winter. It was a great day hiking up until we reached tree line and the clouds and snow moved in. I was with a friend who was more experienced climber at the time we camped right on the summit. This was a bad choice, it snowed hard and the wind was howling all night. By far the coldest night I have ever experienced. We hiked out in the morning and again below tree line the weather was beautiful. I want to return because I've heard the view is amazing from there.

Flume to Lafayette and back  Sucess!

Weather wasn't cooperating as we'd hoped so the summit was completely fogged in. Still a fun 17 mile walk nonetheless.
