made the summit and had lots of company on the 4th of July.
After climbing Long's a few weeks ago...it seemed sick and wrong to sleep in late and bag 4 peaks with such minimal effort. Nice scenery and easy hiking don't make for solitude. Still a fun hike though.
Climbed with Mom, Dad, and little brother. Near a mine, we found part of a drill bit forged into a chisel.
The best summit of the 3; dramatic view via the approach.
Best of the 3 summits in this area.
Climbed with my 2 brothers. Did the triumvirate.
A fun day out up high.
Here's a (sorta) trip report.
early snow covered from parking lot up...fun day with son....lightning was a problem near summit...no place to go.
Nice easy 14er!
Hitting Lincoln, Democrat and Bross started a slight case of 14er fever.
Flew in from Seattle, rented a car, drove to the trailhead, and did the Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln circa all in one day! Was feeling the affects of altitude quite a bit. We descended down from Lincoln in the dark, got in the car, and drove off to the trailhead of Mount Elbert.
We approached Lincoln after climbing Democrat and approached via the saddle between Lincoln and Cameron. May not officially get the credit since we didn't descend and ascend 3000 ft (?) but we stood on the summit and it was still fun!
part of the 3-peak standard thing. hiking with the crowds.
Windy. No other climbers seen all day.
Just a nice little stroll over from Cameron - take your time and enjoy it!
Soloed on a very windy day. Great spring snow climb!
Summit was thick with fog so finding the summit from the plateau near Cameron was kind of fun. I remember mistaking a seated person for a cairn! Memorable!
Great day for a tripple tick!
We followed Roach's directions for this challenging route up Lincoln, and they worked well. The crux was crossing the Middle Fork of the South Platte, actually. Climbing up near the falls areas (where people ice climb in the winter) was a hoot -- some of the falls are quite lovely, including one that spills over this cube of a rock. Some bush belays are handy, and it would suck to climb this route when it's muddy. The Amphitheatre is somewhat laborious to cross due to a lot of big boulders. Some abnormally large spiders with webs stretching b/w the boulders in the low areas made our crossing even more interesting. A miserable scree slope led us to Lincoln's summit area. We descended our ascent route, just beating out an incoming storm. It started to rain while we packed up our gear at the TH. This route takes longer than its stats would indicate: 4.0 miles, 3370', but it took us 3.5 hours to summit. A trip report is available here
I soloed the DeCaLiBron. I was very pleased that the road had been grated because otherwise, my Prizm wouldn't have made it to Kite Lake. A few inches of snow fell the night before, but it melted very quickly. I though Democrat was the best of the trio.
