Summited along with Mt.s Democrat & Bross that day. Went up with the CU hiking club. I remember it was a nice day, and the weather was beautiful. Think that this might've been the 1st summit, then Bross, then Democrat.
8.21.'9- did this from Montgomery Res. via Lincoln Ampitheatre following my ascent of the N ridge of Democrat. Left TH at 15.58. 'Trail' up to, & surmounting headwall steep & unpleasant, but charming in its own way due to its uniqueness...
The way that I took to surmount the headwall ended up being a few 4th class moves. After I popped up into the ampitheatre, was surprised by perhaps the largest moraine I've seen in Colorado.
Having just come from sea level a day before & being under the sun all day (& having just done another 14er), I hit the wall at this point. Seeing the huge, awful headwall of steep scree almost made me turn around... the only thing that kept me going was the thought of having to return & redo what I'd just done.
Somehow I managed to get past this terrible slope (1 step down for every step up this steep scree slope) & summit at 18.52. Took off at 19.00. Descent was horrendous as well, as the layer of scree not deep enough to 'skri' down.
While I started feeling better on the way down, still didn't feel 100% until back in Parker. While I could see this being enjoyable with some ice falls below & a layer of snow covering the slopes above, but as it is (i.e. summer conditions), this was positively the worst scree slog I've ever done. Absolutely terrible. Back at car @ 20.58.
2nd of 3 summits (+ Cameron Point) that day.
This must have been my second 14er of the day, right after Democrat. I was part of a Boy Scout troop that
undoubtedly managed to annoy everybody up there that day.
Beutiful day, did hit a little snow storm on the way down.
Nice short hike from summit of Democrat. We had great weather and took our time on the summit - very nice summit.
3 summits in a day
Great three 14ers (+Cameron) for a one day trip.
My first 14ers included the standard cirque. Fun times in the Mosquito's
Ring around the cirque continues from Democrat. Off to Bross
Wow! this was a small summit! especially compared w/ Bross! A bit too windy for my liking but the incredible views made up for that!
we hiked it, it was very busy, loved the hike but there were way to many people. i counted 26 people on the tiny little summit of Lincoln. to many loud people and not enough zen'ness to go around.
Did the standard tripple bagger route from Kite Late. Man, most of the work is getting to Democrat and then going up the ridge toward Lincoln! Once I summitted Lincoln, everything else was just a cake walk. Made summit of Lincoln at 11:25 am.
Fourth of 10 fourteeners in 6 days. #12 overall.
A nice alternative to the crowds coming up from Kite Lake. Also went over to Mt. Cameron while up. This was the 1st of 6 fourteeners that my partner and I bagged over 6 days.
Good weather. The Cameron-Lincoln-Bross saddles are a joy to run. 3:52 car to car.
Second assent. The first time I reached the summit I drove to the top of Mt Bross. This time I climbed it with my son Patrick. We climbed Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln and Bross. The weather threatened all day but didn't start raining until I was glissading down off Bross. We planned to climb South Bross but were stopped by the weather.
Impress your friends! Climb 3 14ers in a day! Whatever. The camping at Kite Lake is so serene. I don't remember much else, except that Democrat was first, and I was glad I was running down the Bross scree, not climbing up it.
Friday the 13th we intended to reach Lincoln and Bross. At the summit of Cameron we were forced to turn back by sleet and high winds. Saturday the 14th we decided upon a new route and just barely reached the summit before the weather pounced on us again with high winds and rain. It was the end of a great week that saw us climb Grey's Torrey's, Sherman, Quandry, Ptarmigan and Peak 8.
Quite steep until East Ridge. Very good climb/trail that goes through a bunch of shale. Route is not technical. Their are abandoned mines and Kite Lake Trailhead is easy to get to. Climbed Democrat first then went to do Bross after Lincoln but bailed on west slope when it began to snow. Lincoln has a nice summit on top of a cliff.
Good one to train on, do the traverse and stay at altitude for a while. Esp, if your training for Big Peaks!
Did this traverse w/that ex-girlfriend(see Mt. Elbert summit log), but this was before i thought about proposing to her.
Another winter climb on snowshoes in the Mosquito range. Equally good weather this time around. An easy climb, winter or summer.
