Scenic Ozarks
State HP #32 for me, and the first HP visited on my Birthday! We stayed at the beautiful Mt Magazine Lodge that night, after hiking around the summit trails. The weather was getting cooler, and the leaves turning, what a beautiful day/night the GF and I had on the mountain.

A whirlwind trip continued...
After surviving a very nasty thunderstorm through Tennessee, and then spending the night in Little Rock, I ventured out to Magazine Mountain. Figuring that I had no real reason to ever return to Arkansas, I was going to do this. After a few days in the car, and mostly doing drive-ups, I decided to walk around and hike a little bit. Did a 5 mile hike before summiting. Beautiful spring day for a hike!

at night
I drove to the top back in 2011 so on Monday night I parked down by Cove Lake and hiked 5.8 miles to the top (3.1 to an upper road and then another 2.7 to the Cameron Bluffs). Finding the summit area on the developed top of the ridge was fun. Finding water for the trip back even more so. Great views from the northern overlooks, even at night. Six hours or so round trip.

Easy!
I hiked this from the lodge (which I highly recommend)! It was only about a half mile and very very easy terrain. I was expecting more of a view from the top, but I guess that's what the loop is for. This was my 8th state high point :)

HP #2
Trail was easy and relaxing. I really liked the topo map of Arkansas on top including the USGS survey marker. The lodge looks beautiful - my wife wishes we would have stayed there instead of camping!

Bringing Youth to the Game
I took 6 high school students + 1 other chaperone on this short walk in the woods as we were on our way to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans.
We only walked up the .5-mile from the campground area, but the kids enjoyed the break from driving and didn't seem to mind too much the extra driving time that this side-trip tacked on. They were most thrilled with the views from the south side of Magazine Mountain near the lodge. Beautiful day, fairly cool weather.

Signal Hill trail
A short, easy walk to the high point area where the Arkansas stone map was a nice work of art to admire. However, gazing at the autumn colors from the cliff edges was the highlight of this mountain.

Stayed at Lodge, great place to stay and eat. Snow storm the day before had left the mountain covered in snow and ice. easy walk to summit site via maintained trail.
