4/21/06 - Started at Guanella Pass and climbed Gray Wolf & Mount Spalding on a very cold, windy day.
3/9/14 - Accessed Guanella Pass from the south (Grant side) and had to park more than 6 miles away due to new snow. This made for a 22 mile round trip for Gray Wolf & Spalding... and my husband came down with the flu and turned around just above the flats below Bierstadt leaving me all the joy of trailbreaking (relentless all the way to the summits).
Windy loop from Guanella Pass with Evans and Gray Wolf.
Short and sweet with the wife.
Did this with Evans on the loop. Saw my first mountain goats on the way up
Just wanted a little high altitude quick hike.
Lots of goats on the trail.
Did this with Rosalie Epaulie, Epaulet, Evans and Warren.
Awesome bluebird day!
on the way to evans.
Tour de Abyss...
From Summit Lake with C. Blake...
Took my brother-in-law on his first hike of a 13er and 14er. Headed up from Summit Lake. Great short loop!
Quick bump on the route in to do the Sawtooth Ridge (succesfull) of Bierstadt. Beautiful trail with lots of scenery.
Nice after work jaunt! Escaped the 100F+ in Denver to 65 or less along the ridge. :)
Great hike up and around the lake to Evans via the ridge.
Passed over on the way to Evans. Took a 15 minute cat nap on the flat summit boulder on the way back down. Relaxing!
First 13er/14er after ACL reconstruction in mid March
Quite a slog through the marsh and willows. Got pretty wet since it rained the night before.
Started with Spalding from Summit Lake
This is more a variation on the standard west slope route because we had to backtrack from the cirque and shoot up a steep but stable slope. We had to work for this one. Dealing with the bog on ascent and descent was nothing compared with bushwhacking through the willows. On our way down, thought we'd never get out. Spalding's views make up for the pain though.
