Route Climbed: Cathedral Lake Date Climbed: January 8, 2006
(August 2, 2008) Climbed from Lily Lake TH as part of a traverse over to Dicks Peak and Jacks Peak.
(January 8, 2006) Great weather the entire day. Almost no wind at all. Did the entire thing with snow shoes, however there was some pretty solid ice on the exposed face leading up to the back side of Tallac.
Route Climbed: SE Chutes Date Climbed: December 4, 2005
After bailing on the NE ridge due to insufficent snow and way too much bushwacking, we hiked/snowshoed the SE Chutes to the summit. Spent the night on the South ramp at ~8800' and tagged the summit in the morning.
Route Climbed: Stanford camp spur/Mt Tallac trail to Glen Alpine Date Climbed: October 22, 2005
My girlfriend JoAnn and I did this as a loop. Leaving our car at the Glen Alpine Trailhead, we walked back down the road to Stanford Sierra Camp. Climbed the steep, brushy trail from Stanford camp to join the main Tallac trail just short of Cathedral Lake. Had a great hike to the summit, then returned to the Glen Alpine trailhead via Gilmore Lake. Beautiful fall day, only marred by a little smoke from a controlled burn.
Route Climbed: Mount Tallac trail Date Climbed: August 2000
A nice day hike up from Lake Tahoe. The views from the top are awesome with the whole desolation wilderness to the west and Lake Tahoe to the east. The summit pyramid is a nice little scramble. This looks like it would be great in the winter.
Route Climbed: from Gilmore Lake Date Climbed: August 2002
A short hike from Gilmore Lake, I really enjoyed the view from the top. I would have lingered for hours if it wasn't for the fifteen or so Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrels trying to crawl up my legs to eat my food!
I hiked up it again with my husband and friend Paul, via the Cathedral Lake Trail in November of 2005. There was still snow from the previous winter!
Route Climbed: East Gully/East Ridge Date Climbed: June 7, 2003
My buddy Brad and I did this as a warmup to Shasta. We climbed the large hidden gully directly east of the summit, then climbed the East ridge that joins with the south slope. We glisaded the chute that is south of the East Ridge.
Route Climbed: trail Date Climbed: August, 1999
Caught the sunrise on Lake Tahoe from the top with my brother as part of a short backpacking trip.
Route Climbed: Mid Tallac Trail Date Climbed: August 15, 2003
Buddy trip in Desolation with a side trip to Tallac. Crowded summit, even saw kids wearing helmets..and they only took the main trail. No tents or bug nets, slept out in the open and was not harassed by bugs...it was perfect.
Route Climbed: SE chutes Date Climbed: July 23rd 2005
Amazing view from top, well worth the couple hours it took to summit. Had some difficulties finding the route as there are no paths leading to it. Beware of loose rocks.
Route Climbed: Glen Alpine Date Climbed: June, 2000
Basic trail to near the top, Gilmore Lk was beautiful. Lost the trail in the snow above Gilmore but XC was easy, no route finding difficulty. Rescued a Louisiana resident near the top who had panicked due to the snow. Splendid views of Tahoe
Followed Tallac trail to Cathedral bowl. Climbed the talus ridge on the north side of bowl, staying above large snowfield. After the bowl, meandered my way through a few snowfields trying to follow the trail, then made for the ridge to get clear of snow. Easy going to the summit from there.
Route Climbed: NE Ridge and NE Bowl Ski Descent Date Climbed: March, 2005
Have actually raced up and down this mountain with my old Alaska climbing partner while our wifes ran the Lake Tahoe Marathon.
We used to live in Incline Village in the 1990's and took guests to the summit often. Skied it for the first time just this past March, 2005 when on a road trip through the area. Never seen so much damn powder, could barely keep my tips up on ascent. That was work! As always, worth the view though. I highly recommend this ski route. Cheers!
Route Climbed: North East Ridge Date Climbed: 7 May 2005
It was a awesome day. No wind, very little clouds and a lot of sun. Abi and I started at 5:30 in the morining at reached the summit at 8:00. The views where so great that we sat on the summit for 3 hours until the summit got a little crowded.
Route Climbed: Cathedral Lake Trail Date Climbed: 11 July 2004
This was the first peak I ever bagged. The day was nice and warm with hardly any wind. The views where awsome. I have been addicted to the mountains ever since.
