This is one of those funny ones. Every day, folks by the dozens drive to within a few feet of the summit and once there occasionally rub elbows with other folks who seem to be a little out of breath or on the sweaty side. I've hiked and scrambled from near sea level to the top a number of times. On this day, I set out from Kentfield, at first on a fire road, then opting to scramble up the northeast ridge. Along the way, I ran into a number of direct paths, straight up the mountain to the peak. They're well warn and eroded by runoff. I'm now all too aware why these shortcuts have become a problem and why I won't be going off trail any more. Too many folks.
Have done this several times. This day was with some French exchange studends.
fun hike, great views of the sunset, and the city
Mt Tam then Stinson beach for sunset
Nice day hiking from the Muir Woods National Monument to the 3 summits of Mt. Tam. Made for a fun loop. Clear, somewhat warm summer day. Would avoid the Monument in the future - didn't realize what a tourist attraction that was.
In the clouds most the way. Cleared up near the top.
Good place to see some of the few plants that grow in serpentine rock. Friend I was with thought the manzanita were painted.
Great way to spend a day on the mountain. Loop hike starting from Stinson Beach.
First non-drive visit to the top. Super foggy and cold rainy day so we had the place to ourselves.
Easy hike, great views. Did this hike with our Boy Scout Venture crew... Love the Coke machine near the top. Stopped by Stinson beach afterwards to cool off the feet.
Sun, some wind, and a great time in steep ravine and on matt davis trail.
this is a regular place for me for a jog.
Climbed several times while going to school at Berkeley -- sometimes with friend Stan
From my childhood bedroom window in S.F., "Tam" loomed prominently over the G.G. Bridge. Through the years I hiked it, biked it, ran it, rock climbed on it, swam on it, surfed below it, drove it, hitchhiked over it, went to high school at the base of it, courted my wife on its slopes and watched our daughter born in its shadow.
Hiked up from Lake Lagunitas.
Ran from Mountain Home Inn. Beautiful views of the marine layer and Marin County.
training hike with good views from the top
