Climbed via the Mountaineers Route. No snow at all in the coulior.
started at night, didn't need headlamp it was almost a full moon.. beautiful hike ready to do it again this winter.
Today was our 15th summit in a row, the weather was good when we left the portal at 5:15 AM ,as we made our way up the main trail we started to encounter lots of people. We had decided when we left the car to make this a walk instead of our usual push for personal best time, a relief since we just finished the 54 mile evolution loop two days prior in 18 hrs. So this trip was fun we interacted with lots with people on the way up and gave big words of encouragement. As we reached trails crest the wind was ripping through the notch making it almost hard to stand up, just in time to meet a guy who had turned back do to the high winds. He asked if we would mind helping him to the summit, yes sir no problem , off we went head down jackets on we pushed forward , it was awesome we made it with our new guest and he was elated to see the summit, what a fun feeling watching one who had given up dig deep and succeed good job Carl.. look forward to next week . Trail is in great shape all the guys working on the trail thank you for all the hard work keeping the Whitney trail in such good condition..MW85
Beautiful hike up, not as crowded as I thought it would be. Super long going down! Epic views from the peak!
We left the Portal at 5 AM made summit at 9:20 AM took a few pictures and back down .The trail was in great shape for running ,not to many people for some reason or another ,we got back to car at 12:40 PM super fun day the weather was perfect . This was our 14th summit in a row week after week. still chasing Richard P who has 29 in a row I sure enjoy being on Mt Whitney. So far this year we have met some wonderful people.
Beautiful day on the Mountaineer's Route. 6 hrs from Whitney Portal to summit.
This was our 7th trip up Whitney in the last 2 months. we are training for a multi stage race in Nepal this coming november, as of late our trips are under 12 hrs from car to summit to car with camera gear. Whitney is the sacred training ground for us as well as many people looking to get up for their first time. Its always a pleasure meeting new people and helping those in need. We have met a guy recently, his name is Richard , and he has 25 consecutive weeks up Whitney . we will be headed down again tonight for our 3 am departure , we will check in with trail information tomorrow.. Peace Davey and Tracy
with Moarkse. First day was a struggle with the wind and routefinding. Second day we made it to about 12,000 to the ridge before Iceberg lake but were too tired to continue. Routefinding was a challenge on the way down, and we wound up using some rappel slings to rappel of the trail where it appeared to have cliffed-out for others as well. Snow condition was very variable, from posthole-soft to icy.
Such an amazing hike!!!
Second time! From Guitar Lake. Great sunrise hike.
Nice day hike to the summit, had to avoid the switchbacks due to snow and ice and go up the chute which made it a little more interesting, but fun none-the-less.
Made it to 14138 feet at the top of the couliour and then turned back after a scary fall. See trip report for details
... and got there. Overnight at Trail Camp is a great experience, dawn breaking as you're heading up the 99 switchbacks is stunning.
One of the best days of my life... and my feet had never hurt so much! We started at around 6 am and reached the summit around noon. Stayed at the hostel in Lone Pine and got pizza across the street... perfect set up.
Successful 6-day backpacking trip, entering the High Sierra over Shepherd Pass and pushing to the top from the west on JMT, then descending to Whitney Portal.
Took the main trail up and down in one day. Enjoyed the company of old friends, fabulous weather, gorgeous views and no bear encounters. Anyone who prepares and is in good condition can do this hike in the summer.
First time reg route total white out on top (84). Next time Mtnrs Route, awesome (92). Next time reg route with my wife in Oct no one on top, beautiful day (93)
Pullharder Alpine Club, Winter solos of the East face and East Buttress, 12h 45 min car-to-car. My 5th and 6th summits of this amazing mountain, and completely free of humanity except myself, very tranquil.
Hike 2 day via Whitney portal. So amazing. Will come back for more. A tip, if you are staying at the lake and the are plenty of spots, dont set down next to someone and talk all night.. .that aside fantastic, will be back for more , mountaineers and E. buttress are next
Summited Whitney many times, single day trips, multiple overnights, and a summit by the mountaineers route.
