A Very Educational Climb
Didn't make the summit but my buddy Dave and I learned some valuable mountaineering lessons. First morning at Lower Boyscout we found that our stove wouldn't work in that cold so we had no access to water. We ran into two fellow climbers, Robb and Gareth, that were really amazing and provided us with water and some great advice for us novices. Thanks guys, you really saved our trip! Next winter Dave and I plan to give the summit another go, but this time with the proper preparation.

Perfect Day to Summit..
This was the best weather I have ever had in my several times on Whitney. Cool, but not cold, light wind, and no haze in the Owens Valley. In August this same year, we had snow. Fantastic weekend outing coming up from the Portal and camping at Trail Camp.

1st time
Hit the switchbacks from Trail Camp at 230 in the morning. My hiking buddy and I thought it be cool to catch the sunrise plus get up the Mountain & back down before it got to late in the day. I am so glad I made the time this year to come up here! Looking forward to a return trip to hike more of the surrounding areas.

California Dreaming
June will mark 10 years since I did Whitney. As a delinquet 15 year old I ingnored eating and drinking water at high altitudes, and learned the hard way (projectile vomit at the summit)

Climbed Whitney along the John Muir trail in one day with a couple of friends. What a trip!
Hiked up the regular trail on a long day almost 20 years ago. What a magical summit view. Even though there were many people, it is just a great place to be. Tired feet on the last few miles down, and stayed in Lone Pine. What a fantastic area to experience. The views of Russell and Williamson are amazing.

Made it to the summit, hard time on the ledges, challenging for a novice like me.

Got Sick 500 Vertical Feet from Summit
Climbed w/ my good friend Bill ... and his friend Gary. We came up from the Whitney Portal that morning around 7 AM and made it to Trail Camp pretty quick. After lunch decided to go for summit instead of waiting until 2 AM. After 97-ish switchbacks ... made it to Trail Crest at around 13,600 ft. We crossed by the "windows" and I got sick ... bad headach, dizzy, and sick to my stomach ... my 1st experience w/ AMS. I decided to head down 500 vertical feet from summit. Bill & Gary went on to summit. It was cold & windy. Made it back down to trail camp just before the sun went down. Bill & Gary made it down about 1 hour after the sun went down. I will go back. Great climb & experience though. Note: about 2 hours up the switchback & 1.5 hours from Trail Crest to Summit.
