I was kidding about the title, not much to see on top except some trees and a survey marker.

First peak of a 3 peak day
Wittenberg, Barnabe and Pine Mountain on a Marin County peakbagging day. Made this one much longer than needed by missing the turnoff from the Meadow Trail and taking the next trail up leading to a 9 mile hike. Made up the time by running most of the way down from the summit on the Wittenberg trail. Trip report is HERE
A warm, sunny day in 2008. Romantic interlude near the campground. Life is good.

#4 Wittenberg
Michael's 4th peak bagged. We hiked farther than anticipated as we had to backtrack due to "aggressive yellow-jackets" on the Horse Trail.

Wittenberg trail w/Scouts
Hiked this trail with a group of boy scouts. They all had a good time but were a little freaked out by all the trees on top. I think they were expecting an unobstructed view of the ocean. Anyway, we camped at Sky Camp and had a great time.

lots of mushrooms
did this just after rain in december. Plenty of trails to carry on to.
I climbed it a few times in 2006 and 2007. I always saw some wildlife along the way - deer, bobcat, quail, banana slugs, etc.

My First "Mount"
Growing up at the eastern edge of West Marin, I frequented Point Reyes quite a bit since before I can remember. When I was old enough, my Dad took me to "Climb" Mount Whittenberg. I clearly remember thinking "MOUNT WHITTENBERG! Wow, it must be huge!" It was a good little hike for a 10-year old and the view from just below the summit was as awesome then as it is now.

I lived/worked in the park as a biological science tech for a season. Consequently, I hiked the majority of the trails in the park, Wittenberg included.

Cruised on in via the sky trail to enjoy some of the lush forests socked in with the summer fog. Summit is hardly worth tagging but the slopes are a blast to explore:

Macabre day at Sculptured Beach
The view does not exist from Mt. Wittenburg but certainly worth bagging if you are in the area. This was a 15 mile loop to take in the beaches....Arch Rock, Sculptured Beach etc. When we arrived at Sculptured Beach two kayakers ran up to us asking if we had cell phone reception. Turns out they had just found a dead man floating in the inlet nearby. Eventually park rangers came with horses to pull the corpse out of the water. Never found out what happened but was unfortunate and not what you'd expect to find while hiking Point Reyes.
