Mountain Mahogany

Mountain Mahogany

Curl-leaf Mountain Mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius) is a very common small tree in the Spring Mountains, Nevada. It is long-lived and slow-growing evergreen species that is important for wildlife. Deer browse on its foliage year-round. Native Americans used this tree to make a red dye by grinding its roots and mixing them with juniper ashes and alder bark. Note: These trees are not related to true Mahogany.

Great ... Anya,

this is one of my most wonderful
shrubs of all! I think the Curl-leaf
is a member of the Rose Family. It's
a cousin to the Littleleaf Mountain
Mahogany!

Re: Great ... Anya,

Their fluffies coming out of a fruit remind me of those of a cliffrose or apache plume lower in the desert. Perhaps they are all related.

I'm not sure what you mean, advice on posting on taking photos? Thanks.

You captured a great alter ego

A different personality of this usually-so-boring evergreen! Thanks for the cool picture :)
