plant misidentification

This is not a lupine, its a larkspur (Delphinium sp.) Nice photo though.

This is probably Delphinium polycladon?

Delphinium glaucum has huge, fat spikes of flowers up to nine feet tall. The stems at the base are as thick as a finger. Was the plant you photographed about three or four feet tall? Check out this link:

There is a great patch of D. polycladon just before First Lake on the North Fork of Big Pine Creek trail in the Palisades (Sierra Nevada). It's hard to miss if you're there in mid to late July.

Thank you! I think you are right. It's not easy to identify flowers. There are subtle differences between some of the varieties! I appreciate the correction!
