Great page. I didn't know anything about this area. Would be nice to include a link to the Tuscarora Trail.

Good page and good pics. Virginia and North Carolina will be in my cards for April of next year.

Thanks for the vote. I haven't hiked anything north of... dammit, I can't remember the name of the pass, but the place where US55 crosses the trail. It looks really nice and much less crowded than the rest of the long trails in the area.

Another one I've been meaning to do is North Mountain in WV that passes just east of Seneca Rocks.

Good Info.

Good info on this page. Maybe it could be redefined as a range now that Version 2 is here? Also, I've been wondering if this Great North Mountain is considered the same as the Great North Mountain I see on maps of the Elliot Knob area in Augusta County, VA.

Re: Good Info.

Thanks. It might make a good range, but there would need to be a lot of subdivision into individual summits. So far, this has not seen a lot of interest since hardly anyone goes there. As to the Ellion Knob area, I don't know. GNM is a very long structure (as are many of the major mountains in that area, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are one and the same.

Misleading Images

This is a misleading page. With a summit height listed as 2,805 feet, one would assume the page is about the section of the ridge that is between SR 55 and Waites Run Road. But in the page’s gallery of pictures, there is one that is captioned, “Being silly on the summit of Great North Mountain.” There is nothing resembling the rocks or the view in that picture along that particular stretch of ridge. That picture, along with four others in the page's gallery, belong with the SP page for Big Schloss (2,964 feet).
