Mt. Esther

Esther Mountain as seen from the slopes of Whiteface Mountain, along the Wilmington Trail. The roadway that goes almost to the top of Whiteface can be seen in front of Esther Mountain. Whiteface Mountain is the 5th highest in the Adirondacks, at 4,867' and Esther Mountain is the 28th highest at 4,240'. A neat fact about Esther is that it is the only high peak in the Adirondacks named after a female, as a 15 year old woman named Esther McComb was the first to climb this mountain on a failed attempt to climb Whiteface Mountain. There is a plaque at the top of Esther Mountain honoring her name and accomplishment. (July 9, 2010)
