Tough hike for occasional hikers
Went hiking up Timpanogos on a family Memorial Day weekend hike. But, not everyone was up to a full trip to the summit, so we turned back after hiking for several hours. Despite turning back, we all enjoyed the great views along the way.
I hiked the Aspen Grove route with a couple of friends. Since afternoon thunderstorms were rolling in, we decided to turn back at the saddle.
On the way up we found a man and his son stuck up on a dry waterfall. They lost the trail on the way down and ended up descending a steep water-carved channel. We helped them downclimb back to the main trail. Although they were visibly nervous, they both did great for their first bouldering experience. Hopefully their next one won't be so exciting. :)

One of the best hikes in Utah and early summer is great for wild flowers and less people. Go for the sun rise and you'll wish you'd seen the sunset.

Just Visiting
Weren't even aware of Mt. Timp until a visit 2 years ago. Made a note to come back and climb it. Did that this July on a beautiful day. Great climb in beautiful country. LOTS of mountain goats. Nine and a half PAGES of entries in the summit register the day before. What's up with that?

Great day
Beautiful weather. A light rain on the way down helped cool things off a bit (felt GREAT). Saw a herd of about 20 mtn goats near the hut on the way down, and 2 moose almost to the trail head.
I climbed Timp the first time in July 2004 via the Timpooneke trail--came down the glacier and down the Aspen Grove trail. I have climbed it every year since (Aug.'05, Sept.'06, Jul. & Sept.'07), but always from the Aspen Grove side (it's closer to my house). Timp is one of my favorite mountains!
First climbed it on the Aspen trail in 2005. Have done it a few times since then on that trail and tried Everest Ridge this last spring without success. Maybe next year...
- overnighter time from Aspen Grove, July 1996
- two day hikes from Timpooneke in August 1997 and June 2000
- ridge traverse from Bomber Peak to South Timpanogos on July 20, 2008, as a loop from a base camp in Timp Basin.

Good times
We went up from Timpenooke(?) and went directly up the snow, which provided awesome glissading (and ragdolling) on the way down. Such a great area.

Route Climbed: Timpanooke 2x Better in May
First time I climbed it in late july and was a very fun hike, in may though with the snow cover you can get some awsome glissading in. Also you can come directly up some of the rivers that are wterfalls and rapids later in the summer, saving time and adding fun! Great slides down the "glacier."

Timpooneke TrailNearly perfect day, the trail wasn't too crowded, and the sun wasn't too hot. The glacier sure is getting small.
