Give Fred His Due!

You might want to correct the spelling of Fred Beckey's name -- there are two "e"s. This reminds me of the time I was talking with a buddy on the trail about various climbs, sprinkling the conversation with references to "Beckey says this" and Beckey says that". A neophyte climber with us finally asked "Who is this Becky, and how come she knows so much about climbing?"

Winter Climb

Icy Peak has been climbed in winter from the Nooksack Cirque route, at least once. There have probably been a lot of winter ski ascents from Ruth. But only one known winter ascent from the Cirque, back in 1988, by the Tracy-Barry party.

Of course avalanche conditions have to be perfect to do it. The Cirque is a giant hole with avalanches falling into from almost every direction in winter. So don't try it.
