Staggering

Holy cow, what a monster. Consider this: the perspective of this photograph is from an elevation roughly equal to that of Shasta's summit. Rakaposhi towers almost as high again! Check out the unbelievable vertical scale of this thing on Google Earth. It just goes up and up and up and...

Wow

That's a bloody good pic you got there. Personally I don't see the fuss over the NW Spur. The north spur is one of only a handful of routes in the world that stand out from a great distance (or a jet plane) - K2 N Ridge, Golden Pillar of Spantik, W Pillar of Makalu, N Spur Rakaposhi. Anything else on the same mountain is 2nd prize.

I agree with you. If I were to attempt this peak I would go for the North Spur as it looks/sounds a great route. Considering Buhler & co couldn't even get on the start of the NW Spur due to seracs, the route sounds a waste of time to me. You should climb up to the Hom Pass if you are ever in Karimabad with a free day (beats sitting around drinking cappuccino!).
