Via Halfmoon Pass  Sucess!

A cold, windy and blustery afternoon. Wasn't as quick of a day as we planned on but the views of Holy Cross were delicious!
Scrambled with Stephanie Lynn.

North Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed North Ridge from HM Pass. It was actually pretty nice, and a little snow made things a bit more interesting. From Notch, continued over to Halo Ridge by way of direct class 5 assault on the notch.

I proposed to Amy in front of the shelter on a beautiful afternoon. We spent the night in the shelter alone with a fire, champagne, wine and cribbage. The perfect celebration!

Half Moon Pass   Sucess!

The day after summitting Mount of the Holy Cross, we did what any sane people would do and followed the well-built trail from the top of Half Moon Pass all the way to the top of Notch Mountain to enjoy the view of the cross couloir. Partner: Jill.

Halo Ridge  Sucess!

The final leg of the Halo Ridge. I have no idea if the route I found across the Notch is the correct route, but it worked. From the south summit, I followed the ridge along until encountering cairns where cliffs block passage to the notch. I backtracked then downclimbed a steep, loose gully on the west side that appeared to fall into oblivion. Halfway down the gully, a down-trending ledge on the left side allowed exposed 3rd class access to the scree fields below the notch. From there, traversing and a bit of Class 2+ climbing got me to the true summit. Almost gave up before finding that improbable gully.

From the Halo  Sucess!

Took the "direct assault" route from the cabin down a little class 4. I made one attempt to drop down and find the ledge, but got cliffed out and gave that up. Still never saw a good traverse once on the other side. See picture.

Half Moon Pass  Sucess!

After hiking Holy Cross the day before, we dropped our packs at Half Moon Pass and headed up Notch. My Dad stayed at Half Moon Pass while Tom and I ascended up the mountain. Tom Stopped at the saddle while I continued up to the top of Notch. A few inches of snow accumulated in the Cross making it very apparent. Fun climb and very worthwhile.

Halo Ridge  Sucess!

Halo Ridge is quite a hoot, but man did I hate all those switchbacks on the Notch Mountain Trail, quite ridiculous!

Route Climbed: Fall Creek Trail Date Climbed: October 1, 2005  Sucess!

Climbed Notch Mountain on the big search day for missing climber Michelle Vanek. Hiked Fall Creek trail to intersection with Notch Mountain trail. After climbing to the shelter and enjoying the view, made the easy climb to point 13,248. Returned to the shelter and then traversed to the north summit west of the notch. Climbed to the notch from the west side, it is a very impressive cliff. Returned via Half Moon pass. Unfortunately no sign of Michelle that day.

My friend Arthur and I hiked over the hump of Point 13,248 on our Halo Ridge traverse after summitting Mount of the Holy Cross and Holy Cross Ridge. Fun day, great views into the Bowl of Tears and Holy Cross. Visited around the impressive shelter and descended the Notch Mountain Trail. Beautiful wildflowers!
