OK, a little historical...

OK, a little historical perspective for you (thanks to Fred Beckey): this is a view of today's North Star Mountain (8,068 ft), which is the peak right next door to--to the WSW--of Bonanza (see this photo). This was supposed to be called Bonanza Peak and Bonanza Peak was supposed to be called North Star Mountain, but the names were interchanged during cartography. "North Star" would have been a cool name for today's Bonanza. Today's North Star isn't much of a mountain, as you can see here. Due to its vastly different geological make up than Bonanza, it has been subject to a much faster erosional rate. The sharp peak at right is Agnes Mountain (8,115 ft). And if it weren't for the forest fire smoke, you'd see Dome Peak on the center horizon. Photo taken August 30, 2003 from Dumbell Mountain.
