Old Sun Glaicer is melting

Old Sun Glaicer is melting

2015 included a winter of low snow and a summer highlighted by warm, dry conditions and abundant wildfires in the area. Old Sun Glacier, clinging here to the east face of Mount Merritt, clearly felt the effects... Scientists believe Glacier National Park will be devoid of Glaciers by as early as 2030. You know ...

just my thoughts but I really feel sorry for
the infants (youngsters) growing up in today's changing world.

Myself ... I'll be 73 in 2030 so I still have
a few years left to visit Glacier and actually see a glacier there.

Your picture is awesome, thanks for posting !

Re: You know ...

Thank you for your kind words! I took hope you are able to visit before they are gone. I take some solace in the fact that the byproducts of glaciation, deep u-shaped valleys, silty lakes, towering aeretes and cirques, will all remain long after the last glacier has melted.

Super picture!

An excellent photo of this stately mountain with it's remarkable glacier! By what you wrote, I can see the mountain regions in the U.S. are going through exactly the same problem as the Alps...I spoke this summer with a Swiss mountaineer, who, among other things, told me that out of all of the summer ski areas in Switzerland - and there is quite a number of them!! - only two can still operate, both of them in the Zermatt area, where one goes up really high. All the others had to quit operating in summer! Which, of course, also has it's good sides...
