It definitely serves as a warning report...I had no idea that something like that could happen -> a cold moving to your heart. Very glad you are safe and you can collect more 4000ers next summer! The weather is terrible again now anyway...:)
reading Thomas! Just as I was there!
My friends has just came back from Lyskamm, but they also wait and wait for better weather. They reached also Dent Blanche in Swiss. The weather in Alps was various during this season.
Bad luck with your health. It means that we have to be careful all the time, even when we are always in good condition. You will return in the mountains -I'm sure!
The weather was really not very good this summer - so next year SHOULD be good again - and I will return and make the summits I missed this year! :-) Cheers Thomas

- nasty thing! thanks for posting. Very interesting to read and also very scaring. Can happen to all of us. I hope you get well soon! Gute Besserung!! André
But you had made the right decision of turning back... I know it is very hard but can save your life. The mountains will be there next time...
Wish you a quick and total rejuvenation!

Something like this happens to me climbing Pisco (5.760 m.) in the peruvian Andes. My pulse was extremely high when I was arriving to the base camp. I could not to sleep that night and I was thinking to return to Lima as soon as possible. Perhaps it was the "soroche", because I was in Lima (0 meters upon sea level) four days before to climb Pisco.
Don't worry, Schmid, the mountains will be there waiting for us...
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sorry you were ill, but rest! The mountains will be there when you are ready and recuperated. While you are waiting, make plans for future trips. :-)

familiarGiven your age, you probably felt somewhat immortal!
My brush with mortality hit when I was 47, and left me partly paralyzed on my right side. I was very fit at the time.
It is very good to listen to your body.

Re: familiarYou´re right, we only have one body and one heart, so we have to take care of it.
