Thank you for nice words and good vote. It's one of these "hidden" Oregon treasures that's not really described as a climbing objective in any currently published book....that's what makes it fun and worthwhile IMHO :) Nice home page by the way!
Nice page so far! I must have been real cold - Shirley doesn't wear her trademark smile! Love the picture of you posing with all the equipment. Looks like you want to deter SPers from climbing the pillar. Never do this or you'll find yourself lugging all this metalware!
It was actually after our trip there last year that climbing that thing has been "dancing" around in my head. This is a nice fun, adventure type climb (as in not the greatest rock, much of the climbing is aid & cheat stick if you got one but still a cool summit :)
Hey, neat page. Why do I always think of Stein Erickson (the skier) when I hear the name "Steins Pillar"? Weird. Glad to see you put up another cool Oregon page.
Thanks for stopping by and the kind comments Dean!
Acc. to the palque at the overlook, the thing was named after some guy named StEEn from the 1800's. But someone misspelled his last name and it stuck.....sorry, I'll be more specific (and will add that in) after I go thru. the photo of that plaque :)
Yeah, it's been in my head (the climb) since that day we passed by the overlook. This TR on cascade climbers I found a month or so ago finally pushed me over the edge :)
I'll add some more photos later where you see the Twin Pillars from Steins......these things are indeed sweet looking. Love these hidden little gems in Oregon.
Also, that Rabbit Ears that Mark and Natasha did looks pretty cool as well.........lots of stuff to climb, now only if the weather and the freaking job would cooperate!!
Thank you for stopping by and the good vote. Yeah, it's definitely a cool looking spire. Just sort of rises there out of these rolling foothills. Been wanting to climb it for over a year now. Pretty poor rock, not especially aesthetic climbing but a cool summit nevertheless :)

Untitled CommentHey, I remember our hike in there a year or two ago. Wondered if this one would be on your list soon. Appears it was.
The one I think would still be neat from this hike are the Twin Pillars. Wonder if that bolted route was ever finished on that one?
