Ocotillo, barrel cactus, sotol, and a host of other spiny characters comprise the Welcome Wagon on desert peaks. This photo, taken on the southwest ridge of Squaw Mountain (elev. 6,830 ft.) in New Mexico's Organ Mountains, illustrates why shorts are not always the best thing to wear in warm weather.
