Up from Naylor TH, down via Naylor Lake
With family visiting from out of town, we wanted to serve up high country scenery without completely destroying the relatives. Otter was perfect for this purpose! Late fall colors, snow dusted high country, and an eagle fishing in Naylor Lake. Bright sun and bluebird skies, the day could not have been much more perfect.
With Michelle. Deadfall is bad but manageable if you are judicious in your route-finding. Yet it still sucks!!!! Good views and solitude.

Otter Mountain - Winter
I second the comment on the deadfall. Just did this yesterday. Did a diagonal cut across the creek drainage between the marsh and the winter closure of Naylor Lake road. Three feet plus of sugar snow across endless deadfall was not pretty, even with snowshoes. Picked an excellent bluebird day for this; weather was almost spring-like.

Climbed my 100th unique summit of Otter Mountain. Beware of the downfall down low, the upper mountain is a great hike.

From Wilcox
My wife and I came over from Wilcox with ominous clouds building quickly to the west and north. We made a dash around, hitting the bump between the two peaks, summited and retreated down the southern slope. The storm rolled in as we drove away.

Silver Dollar TH
With Rhett on a blue bird day. Very windy and very cold on the top. Saw a couple of big snow shoe hairs and had a close encounter with over 20 goats on the summit. On the way down we also saw what looked like wolverine tracks that crossed over our tracks. Way cool.
Climbed with Darin from the parking area for Silver Dollar Lake, we also made the traverse over to Wilcox. Surprisingly dry given the recent snow storm a week ago, but windy on the summit (maybe that's where the snow went?). Good short fall hike, just under 6 miles RT for the pair!
