Owl's Head from Black Pond

I'd read somewhere that Owl's Head most resembles an owl's head when seen from "the south shore of Black Pond." So I went there, and at first I couldn't see Owl's Head at all. After bushwhacking around and checking my bearings, I found that Owl's Head can be seen best from this little southern inlet where the trail first approaches the pond. Given the haze and the evening shadows, though, I couldn't distinguish the owly cliff face (on the south-facing slope below and to the right [east] of the [southern] peak) at all. Black Pond is a waypoint on a fairly common bushwhack approach to Owl's Head which avoids the two more difficult stream crossings. The route description on HikeNH says to stay on the trail along the shore of the pond, past the point where it is nominally blocked by some small logs. I also spotted a fairly clear use path diverging from the west side of the Black Pond trail just south of the pond, which seemed to be heading in the right direction, but I didn't follow either option.
