Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado. Pegmatite dikes- bends of lighter colored igneous rock, it is more resistant to erosion than the dark gneisses into which they intrude.

That's quite an impressive photo you posted of that canyon wall! Does it still go down a lot further?

Yes, it does, but it was in the shade... It is an impressive canyon...Some rock climbing there too, and often requires overnight on the rock...
