Peak 4040 and Peak 3960

Peak 4040± on the south ridge of South Suicide Peak, with Peak 3960 behind and to the right. Peak 4040, with about 350 feet of prominence, is a worthy destination in itself. It is class 2 from its col with South Suicide or via grass slopes accessed from the upper part of the Falls Creek Trail. According to mountain running legend and sometime journalist Brian Stoecker, it is unofficially known as "Pig" based on a cookie drawn from a box of animal crackers.  Peak 4040 is often overlooked because older maps do not show the 4000-foot contours and give the impression that the measured summit of 3960 (the second-to-southernmost of the four summits on this ridge) is the highest.
