Great snowshoe hike!
Started at Little Mountain tralihead and hiked up to Dale Mountain, then over ridge to Perkins summit; missed hitting "North Perkins" by a tiny bit, I tried crossing the rocky snow-covered knife-edge ridge coming from the south and about halfway across I thought, "I should have an ice axe, not snowshoes and trekking poles for this... no, wait, I just shouldn't be up here..." and backtracked. Not enough time to go around along the eastern slope to get up to it. Next time!
Great snowshoe; snow was untouched from before Dale Mountain summit all the way to Perkins summit, though someone later followed my trail about a quarter of the way to Perkins from Dale then turned around (saw them briefly from a distance, then saw their snowshoe tracks on my way back.) Views up the canyons and from the summits were fantastic. A small elk herd was wandering the lower slopes near the trailhead. Trailhead bathrooms were open and stocked with TP.
6.5 hours total travel time; having to break new snow got me stuck a few times, broke through and went waist-deep in snow I don't know how many times. Some stretches were loose powder (especially on slopes), others held my weight. No snow cornices along the ridge, but it was _thinking_ about making some in places.

Steep Ascent
Climbed up from the valley route. Many thanks to apachedino for clearing a path. It was still there but difficult to find in some places. In other spots it totally saved us from some painful bushwhacking. Great views from the top!

Had an afternoon to myself after running an errand downtown and decided to hit this beautiful ridge.

New ROUTE CLEARED!
NEW ROUTE CLEARED along the Southwest ridge along with the south summit! I cleared a route through the brush from the south with a pair of lopers over a few days last fall and this spring. You can park near the trailhead of Benchmark Drive (near Scenic Drive to the north of Parleys) Walk a short ways along the shorline trail until getting what looks to be an old quarry where a trail heads off east and uphill. This steep route is not eroded like the rutted old ATV trails on the hill to the south. This will take you to the top of the Southeast ridge, after a a small saddle heading north you will come to a very nice throne made of rocks that is a great place for a breather. Continue along the ridge to point 7294, here there is a summit cairn and where previous hikers apparently stopped as the brush got pretty awful after this point. That's when I busted out the lopers. The undulating ridge has amazing views of downtown over what in the spring, is a very green Spring Canyon, the Wasatch and Uinta views are also great, with a unique angle of the Millcreek ridgeline. There is some low class 3 scrambling over and around some very large red sandstone boulders that are unique in that they appear on no other Wasatch summits that I am aware of. After the South Summit descend to the saddle and unfortunately because of time I have not finished cleaning this part, though it is not that bad of brush and only for 100 yards or so and you will be able to make it to the North Summit easily. I hope more people use this route and it does not disappear into the brush again. Its nothing to travel across the country for, but if you live in Salt Lake it is a good close addition to the peaks and is very nice for the spring and fall, it will be a hot route in bid summer because of the aspect, but an early start would mitigate that. I think the views of downtown are much better than the overcrowded Grandeur and Big Beacon/Mt Wire peaks. Enjoy!

Bushwacking
Climbed from the Salt Lake Valley. Got to the top of Perkins Peak and Peak 7500. Watched the sunset and went down. In the dark. It sucked. So many bushes.

Cool Views
Hiked from the neighborhood furthest south but still north of parleys on the BST. It took about 5 hrs round-trip with a good deal of bushwhacking and scrambling. Excellent views of the wasatch to the south.

Perkins Peak
From the Little Mountain summit trailhead, along with Little Mountain, Dale Peak, and Perkins Peak North summit. According to my GPS the North summit is a good 25 feet higher.

Holy bush wack
Climbed this with Dale Peak from above East Canyon. after we reached Perkins we thought well the snow was really bad and we are close to Salt Lake so we continued down the ridge into the Salt Lake Valley and had some of the worst bushwacking I have ever encountered. might have been easier just to walk back to the car as this made for a long night.

ridge run from Little Mt trailhead to Dale, Perkins, Pencil Peak down to SL Valley foothills (with Wasatch Mt Club group).
Started at the Little Mountain summit and came across Dale. Only a little bushwacking to get here (mostly near Perkins). Great view and we could hear a coyote below. The rest of the ridge (until near the Bonneville Shoreline Trail) was very overgrown.

Angry Cats
Climbed yesterday and hit Dale Peak along the way. Once I arrived at the bottom of Perkins it was difficult to follow any trail and I ended up having to navigate my way through several painful bushes. It felt like Wolverine, Freddy Kruger, and several angry cats were attacking my legs. I hiked along the ridge around Perkins for a bit and saw an eagle (I think). Two pheasants scared the crap out of me on the way down by loudly flying away out of some bushes a couple feet away from me. I don't think I'd ever do this hike again and would highly recommend pants!

used Vibram Five Fingers and ran as much of the ridge as i could; the bushwhacking slowed us down and it took 3 or 4 hours to do the 9 miles roundtrip.

ba ba ba bushwhack!
Came over from Dale Peak and loved everything about this hike except for the constant brush and mild bushwhacking. The trail is hard to follow in places and it's easy to get off the route on game trails, but just stay right on top of the ridge the whole way. Was in the office by 9:30. Three hours total round trip.

Long ridge walk
Started at the end of Benchmark Dr with MM. Climbed the SW ridge of Perkins. The going was slow and painful between the 7160 bump and Perkins. Continued over Dale all the way to Little Mt Summit. Came back the same way until just before Perkins and took the 2nd ridge N of Spring Canyon to Kennedy Dr.
I recently cleared this route with lopers as the views are great and the access from the valley is so close. Can't believe there wasnt a good route from the valley given the proximity to so many people.
