I sincerely doubt that you see Hochplatte, bacause as far as I can tell you are looking south-west from Tegelberghaus (?!?). In that case Hochplatte should be right in your back (SE) and you are looking in the direction of the Tannheim mountains of the Allgäu Alps, at least to the right of the picture. Behind them, to the left of the picture might be Hochvogel and Kesselspitze but I don't have decent maps with me so I can't really decide. Moreover, I have never seen the area from that angle :o(

That's what I'm asking Gangolf, I'm looking for somebody with sufficient information. I don't know the place from where the pic was taken and I only have a 1:500.000 map of the area. A Kompass map would help

Maybe you can have a look at www.austrianmap.at . Works best with internet explorer. In the left hand map of Austria (the little one) doubleclick right above the second bump in the narrow part of Tirol. This should take you coles to Füssen. Then choose your map from the pulldownmenue under the larger map (where it says "Kartenauswahl").

That the picture is taken from Neuschwanstein makes much more sense. Still my observations are still correct. Definitely the Allgäu Alps with (probably) Hochvogel to the left. You'll understand if you get the austrianmap thing working.

The picture is not quite from Neuchswanstein , it is actually from a overlook in the area of Neuchswanstein ( a small path leads away from the main path to the castle) but not the actual castle itself,. I pretty much have this same picture, but I cant remember which direction it is. I was all turned around that day. Sorry.

I have the identical picture taken last summer. It's looking back on the town from the road up to the castle. The castle in the picture is the castle of Ludwig's parents, Hohenschwangau. According to the map shown below, you would be looking W, SW. When looking at Google Earth, the mountains in the background of the photo are those due south of Vils. I am not sufficiently familiar with the area to know which peaks one can see from the castle.

I took a deep look into my hiking map and labelled the mountains here:

I'm not fully sure about the exact position of Große Schlicke (though I climbed it last year)

Yes, Diego, as it shows on the map above Mathias'post, the mountains lie SW of the castle.

I've attached the pic to Allgäu Alps. Mathias, perhaps you should clear the copy.

Gracias

Hi Diego,
wouldn't it be worth to keep the labelled picture? - even if you give names in the caption of your picture. I suggest that you post it as your own - and then of course I will delete my posted picture.

Mathias,

I won't post the labelled pic as my own because I haven't done the design. I thought on clearing the first because it's are quite similar to my aunt's photo. Perhaps it's better to leave things as now if you don't want to delete yours.

Take care
