In case anyone missed this news and cares, the owner of 14erWorld has decided to close down the site.

There was a lot of drama yesterday including a long thread on 14ers.com. Hopefully the content will be preserved.

I hope that it will be as well. However, unless someone figures something out, it sounds like everything will vanish like dust in the wind at the end of the month. :(

Pay to use the site is says... how good is it?

I admit if they want to lure people into joining and paying for a subscription, at least show us something that will make us interested. :?

It was an excellent site with an incredible database of TR's for obscure peaks (<14k) and written from some fairly accomplished hikers/mountaineers. The TR database is the real loss because those TR's just dont existe elsewhere and the site owner/admin have gotten their feelings hurt and may end up holding them hostage or trashing them altogether... I think most people are on pins and needles as to what happens next.

Hey Josh,
Ken Nolan has an entire series of trip reports for climbing the 14ers in the winter, as he is only one of four people to have done all 59 in winter. His trip reports are priceless especially to people going after all the 14ers in winter. As said above also, there are many great trip reports for obscure 13ers and 12ers on that site. Most of these trip reports are not in the 14ers.com database. I never joined 14erWorld because I didn't want to pay but that was one hell of a site for Colorado. We will have to see what Bill can do to try and capture all those trip reports before it is too late.

For now, 14ers.com lives on...we can only hope 14erWorld can come back to life.
