Horrible news. I was on this route in early July and we got 5 days of snow in a row and over 3 feet. We eventually had to go over to the Italian side. This has been the worst summer in memory there in terms of weather. Horrible white-outs and avalanches the whole trip. RIP.

Extremely bad news, such a terrible loss. With the weather being as it has, what would be anyone's opinion on the guide's decision to go up? It's just scary for someone such as myself considering going on such courses and then something like that happening. I do realise we all make the decisions to do these things and accept the risks involved, but this is a horrible occurunce.

You really want to use the reputable guides up there. We used Compagnie, and they basically told us no way. Sometimes, you could only see the next climber on the rope. There were some guides that didn't turn back, and I heard that two people died as a result. I'm not sure what happened in this exact situation, but sometimes the clients really insist on making the summit.
