Alpine Lakes current conditions

by KurdishKlimber » Tue Jul 05, 2016 6:46 pm

Looking to find out the current conditions in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Specifically, planning to do Colchuck Peak's Glacier route and perhaps a link up to Dragon Tail.

Thanks

Try CascadeClimbers.com. Word on the street is snow is melting out, folks have been climbing Backbone Ridge on Dragontail, WR Prusik, CNR Stuart. I would be willing to bet Colchuck Glacier is in decent shape, just watch out for icy patches that are beginning to melt out. It is climbable all season long really, but becomes very icy and somewhat dangerous later in the summer.

I went up Colchuck peak's Glacier route last Friday. There was consistent snow most of the way and it was in great shape. Wouldn't want to do it without crampons and an ax. Very fun and scenic outing. Didn't summit due to my late start.
